Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Sam is a workaholic bachelor who babysits his niece and nephew before the holidays when his sister and her husband have to go out of town. Completely out of his element, he recruits help from their handsome neighbor Jason and finds himself in an unexpected romance.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Jonathan Bennett plays Sam, a city boy who drinks dirty Martinis and goes on a date with a handsome doctor. (Who loves his nephews.) Jonathan Bennett doesn’t get the appeal of kids and is ready for a Hawaii vacation without his family. The date doesn’t go well because they are not on the same page. On the other hand, his co-worker Ellie is getting married to her girlfriend. Ellie is going against her pack with Jonathan Bennett to never move to the suburbs and get married.

Jason lives in the suburbs across the street from his mother AND beside Jonathan Bennett’s sister Kathleen. He wants to adopt kids and is friendly with Kathleen’s kids, Miles and Dania.

Kathleen and her husband, Nate, get a call that their surrogate is going into labor. They exhaust all their options before calling Jonathan Bennett. (The last time he babysat her almost burned down the house.) Sam tries to get out of it, but Kathleen pulls out all the stops to convince him to help them out. Before leaving, they promised the kids they would be home by Christmas with a baby sister.

Jonathan Bennett takes a cab to the burbs and moves his trip back a few days. He is surprised to find Jason. The is a handsome neighbor watching the kids until he arrives. Well, they actually fall into one another’s arms when Jonathan Bennett slips on an ice patch.

Kathleen leaves a detailed schedule, and Jonathan Bennett runs an hour behind on his first day. She also leaves a list of takeout from vegan restaurants, and the house doesn’t have coffee. Dania has a breakdown over pancakes.

Jason’s brother is having a hard Christmas because it is his first since his wife died. While Jason is consoling his brother, he gets an emergency text from Jonathan Bennett for help. Jason comes over and cooks vegan pancakes. Cue a cute cooking scene with the male leads. Jason is way better with kids because he is the uncle to 18 nieces and nephews. Jonathan Bennett hires Jason as an uncle consultant.

Kathleen calls to check in, and Jonathan Bennett asks why she never told him about her hot gay neighbor. She tells her brother that she doesn’t think they are compatible because Jason wants kids and a family.

As Jason and Jonathan Bennett do Christmas things with his Neice and Nephew, they get to know one another and Jason’s eccentric family. While Jason opens up, Jonathan Bennett spoils the romantic moment with a pratfall a la Sandra Bullock.

Later Jason and his brother talk about dating Jonathan Bennett. It is nice to see a straight brother giving his gay brother love advice and encouraging him. What a great scene.

The baby is born, and Kathleen and Nate facetime with the baby. They might not make it back by Christmas.

They guys flirt while painting and wrapping Christmas presents. They make a good team and communicate well. Jonathan Bennett also communicates well with his nephew and niece. Giving them life advice like Mike freakin Brady. (Jonathan Bennett would be good in a Brady reboot, actually!)

It is time for Mile’s Christmas play. Jonathan Bennett records the play for his sister and brother-in-law. After the show, Jason’s family invites him and his family to their Christmas brunch.

On Christmas eve, Jonathan Bennett shares a Christmas tradition with Jason. They turn off the light and get freaky!!!! J/K, they sing Silent Night and hold hands. (GAY!) They almost kiss but are interrupted by Kathleen’s ride pulling into the driveway. They made it in time for Christmas.

Jonathan Bennett decides to stay and celebrate Christmas with his family for the first time in a long time. He is overwhelmed with emotion to learn the new baby is named after him. He texts Jason photos, but Jason doesn’t respond. Jonathan Bennett finds the check he wrote Jason for consulting in his stocking. He feels like he has been rejected.

Jonathan Bennett cries and is consoled by his sister. Kathleen tells him that he is allowed to have a family if he wants one, but Jonathan Bennett says that he never felt like it was an option because of how gay men are perceived. (This made my mom cry, haha! Awww)

Jason is conflicted because he likes Jonathan Bennett, but the last interaction felt transactional.

They both rush to one another to tell each other how they feel. Jonathan Bennett says it feels right, and he can see a future together. They kiss (It’s a good kiss! I was impressed, Hallmark.) and have Brunch and Christmas dinner with each other’s family. The family cheers them on from the block.

Side Note

Jonathan Bennett’s best performance in a Hallmark movie right here! Very well done.

  1. The beginning left a bad taste. For some kids or having a family are not?

Assuming someone has heaps of freetime bc they don’t usually take a break? Perhaps ask them first if they have anything scheduled? And don’t blackmail them.

What his bestfriend said was bullshit. Very condescending.

As if meeting the “one” will cure you from everything.
