Synopsis (via Lifetime)
After flying to a secluded island resort ahead of a friend’s destination wedding, a recently single lawyer begins a passionate fling with a charming stranger. When her passport disappears, she realizes the man she trusted may have trapped her in paradise.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with a husky surfer hitting the waves. Instead of coming across Jaws, he finds a dead body!

Cut to a week earlier, where we meet an ALMOST newly engaged couple, Rachel and Daniel. Rachel is up for a new job in DC as a public defender, and she can’t commit to Daniel with his Baltimore O’s and swoopy haircut. She is too good for him.
Ironically, Rachel has to go for a wedding dress fitting the next day with her BFF Emma, who is planning a destination wedding. Emma even pushes the trip earlier so Rachel can get away from her trouble with Daniel.
At the airport, Rachel meets a handsome stranger named Billy. He flirts with her and says he is on Siesta Key for the same wedding. He is an old college friend of Chris’s, the Groom. ALLEGEDLY. When they arrive, the resort seems pretty much abandoned, and they are the only two guests. At least Rachel gets an ocean view.

Billy invites Rachel to enjoy pina coladas before heading to the beach. They are attractive and sun-soaked, splashing in the waves, so what is the catch here?
Oh great, someone breaks into Rachel’s room while she is showering and goes through her purse. She calls security, and the hotel says that the resort is safe and advises against contacting the police. Instead, they give her a bottle of Processo. Billy and Rachel enjoy it with a sunset dinner, but get creeped out by the host who keeps staring at them. They kiss, but Rachel tells him she isn’t ready for a relationship (Daniel’s incessant calling isn’t helping), and they agree to meet for breakfast.
The next morning, security tells them they saw nothing on the footage, and Rachel wants to go to the police, but Billy talks her out of it. They spend the day playing Giant Jenga and Two Truths and a Lie. His lie is that he has never sung karaoke… or KILLED before. (Seriously, when is the other shoe going to drop?)

Rachel invites Bill into her room, and they have a one-night stand. In the middle of the night, Rachel wakes up to find Billy rifling through her things. He claims he is looking for aspirin, but the next morning Rachel notices her passport and credit cards have been stolen and accuses Billy. He storms off, offended. Rachel calls Daniel and asks him to send her driver’s license so she can get home. Or as Daniel would say, “ho-ome.”
Emma and Chris arrive for their wedding, and Rachel gushes about Billy, Chris’s friend from college. The problem is, Chris and Emma don’t know WHO Billy is. Rachel is disturbed and asks the hotel host for more information about Billy, but he is not at liberty to say.
The wedding schedule is still underway, and Chris and Emma welcome all their real guests to the destination wedding. Rachel spends most of the party searching for Billy. She mistakes someone for Billy and chases after him, causing a commotion and almost ruining the dinner.

Rachel breaks into Billy’s room and finds his body in the bathtub. She steals a flash drive that contains photos of her. Rachel rushes to the front desk to get help from security. They don’t find the body and tell Rachel to rest until they figure it out. Rachel doesn’t do that and works with the security guard to review the footage.
Determined to figure out what is going on, Rachel asks a bellhop named Evan for help. He remembers Billy, which makes Rachel feel less crazy. Evan tells Rachel that he DID see Billy having an argument by the pool the night he went missing.
The stress is getting to Rachel, and she is supposed to be on vacation. She thinks she sees Billy in the pool, and then Daniel shows up unexpectedly. Rachel is suspicious that he has been following her. He shows her his plane ticket as proof, but that doesn’t prove anything other than he has a credit card.

We are back to the surfer finding the body in the waves. It is Billy. I love Emma, because she is only worried about the wedding being tainted by murder. When Emma sees a picture of Billy, she recognizes him as Liam. Emma had an affair with him. Rachel cuts to the chase and asks Emma if she killed him. Emma had the motive, but Emma is like, “I would never!”

Detectives find Rachel’s passport and wallet in Billy’s room, but that is no match for Detective Rachel, who finds Chris’ money clip outside of the room. Rachel confronts Chris while he is shaving, and he avoids her question. Instead, he goes into Villain Monologue mode. Chris admits he got into an argument in Billy’s room and that he strangled him to death. Then he covered up the murder.
Rachel fights to get out of the hotel room and call the police, but she ends up running through the stairwells and into the reception area. Rachel hides under a table, but Chris finds her. They start throwing ice buckets and chafing dishes at one another. Rachel eventually takes him out with the classic vase of flowers when security arrives and throws Chris into the wedding cake. Finally, Rachel smashes him over the head with a bottle of prosecco.

The police take Chris away, leaving Emma and Rachel to pick up the pieces of a broken heart on the beach.
STRAY Thought
This was like White Lotus for Dummies. Really dragged in parts, but overall the shirtless hunks were hunking.
I still think Anna Marie Dobbins is perfect for these.
